Upon passing the Bar, she was invited to give a speech at the induction ceremony at The 4th District Court of Appeal for achieving one of the highest scores on The Florida Bar exam. Prior to attending law school, Cortney was employed as a Law Clerk at one of South Florida's leading law firms, where she gained experience working on issues pertaining to real estate law contracts. She was also the legal intern in the Felony Division of the Public Defender's office of the Seventeenth Judicial Court, where she assisted FBI agents on a confidential case. In addition, while Cortney attended law school, she volunteered as a guardian ad litem, advocating for children's best interest.
